With lawyers becoming involved, something has gone awry. There has to be a better way. One of the benefits of being a relatively small town is the ability to communicate directly with people. This outreach would create much more goodwill among the various parties and avoid the acrimony I am hearing at both the TC and PB meetings. I've only become aware of this issue in the past month. I'm sure the information was posted, but people are busy and we need to keep reminding ourselves of this. Perhaps there is another way to achieve the stated goal aside from doing a blanket zoning ordinance that harms or threatens our local businesses and their owners in the central business district. Is it possible for the zoning ordinance to be tabled or withdrawn while the town and business people craft a vision of downtown? To me this would replace what is obviously being perceived as a negative, top down approach with a positive and cooperative one in which everyone would benefit. Hopefully going forward we can learn from this and adopt a more welcoming environment by reaching out early and creating partnerships. Sincerely, Carol Tuveson Watson Road
