From: Michael Behrendt Sent: Wednesday, January 11, 2017 2:25 PM Subject: Friends Forever - email from Alfred Ackerman To the Planning Board, Please see the email below from Alfred Ackerman, a neighbor of Friends Forever. Mr. Ackerman is not a direct abutter but lives at 13 Morgan Way, Lot 23- 15, toward the cul de sac. I would note the following in response to his comments: * I emailed a suggested additional line for the site plan approval yesterday about minimizing disturbance to neighbors. * The plan submitted by the applicant showed the Town of Durham as the owner of the lot to the west, at 5 Williams Way. The owner is actually Rita Murphy Rev. Trust. We sent the notice to the correct party. I would suggest adding a correction in the Findings of Fact on the approval just for the record. I will mention this tonight. * Indeed, the farmhouse does have historic/architectural character. It was built in 1850. Steve Martineau and I have talked about this and he is sensitive to the building’s character. No addition is planned at this time but any building addition in the future, related to the bed and breakfast, would require site plan approval. The Town does not have architectural control over this building as it is outside of the Historic District and not subject to the architectural regulations but we would strongly encourage Friends Forever to avoid making any exterior changes that would diminish the building’s character, such as removing architectural trim/detailing or installing vinyl siding. It appears that the garage on the right side was added later. I like your suggestion about adding a statement about minimal impact to the neighborhood. The Murphys are directly behind the farm house and stand to bear the burden of any possible future expansion as a B and B. In fact one of the surveys that we saw in the proposal had a slice of town land between the farm house and the Murphys. This should somehow be noted as an error. We told Steve about it. It may be their survey. We also discussed doing as minimal to the house (on the outside) as possible to meet the town's requirements, in order to retain the historical look of the structure. Steve was in complete agreement. I know Patrick Murphy will be at the site today and he will have further questions. Thanks again for your help. Alfred Sent from my iPhone
