I am unable to attend your meeting this evening. I am contemplating moving to the proposed RiverWoods Durham CCRC facility to be sited on Stone Quarry Drive near the intersection with Route 108, just North of the Route 4 access ramps. I have a number of questions regarding access to and egress from the planned facility. RiverWoods Durham will have 150 independent living units with an anticipated population of between 150 and 300 individuals, and will provide parking spaces for 300 residents’ automobiles. In addition, accommodations for a 24/7 staff for the independent living units and the attached assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing care facilities will be provided. UNH interns will be included in the staff. I submit that this population of residents and staff will result in a significant increase in traffic on Stone Quarry Drive and in the usage of the Stone Quarry Drive – State Route 108 intersection. What vehicular traffic and pedestrian improvements are contemplated to safely accommodate the anticipated increase in population and usage? Specifically: * Will there be traffic control lights or other control structures placed at the intersection? Northbound through traffic on Rt 108 is typically accelerating when passing this intersection either from the vicinity of Jackson’s Landing, or from the Route 4 access ramps. Southbound traffic has a short sight distance to the intersection because of the rise between Canney Road and the Durham Police Station. * Will there be a bus stop placed at the intersection on the Northbound lane of Route 108 headed to Dover? * Will there be a bus stop placed across the road on the Southbound lane of Route 108 to facilitate travel into the downtown and UNH areas? If so, will there be a crosswalk established to access the Southbound bus stop? Will there be traffic lights to permit safe passage on the crosswalk to that bus stop? * Will there be a sidewalk provided from the RiverWoods Durham CCRC facility along Stone Quarry Drive, and then South along the East side of Route 108 to join the existing sidewalk into town from Jackson’s Landing? Such a sidewalk would of necessity have to cross two ramps between Route 4 and Route 108. What pedestrian protections would be provided at those crossings? * Thank you for your consideration of these issues. Best regards, Michael Drooker 7 Marden Way
