Reason for Interest in Running for Elected Office:
I have thoroughly enjoyed my past 3 years serving on the Durham Town Council. With this experience, I am more aware of the varied concerns of Town residents. During the past 3 years the Council has approved the construction of our wonderful new Public Library and has progressed with issues of water supply, the health of the Great Bay, conservation of land for water and recreation, neighborhood quality of life and many other issues that make Durham a wonderful place to live and raise a family. I have tried to keep the Goals set by the Council as my primary focus being mindful of our tax burden. The number of new restaurants and businesses in Durham is a testament to the Council’s concern (with my support) about broadening our tax base.
My wife Martie and I have raised 3 daughters who attended Oyster River Schools. Although retired from my solo Ophthalmology practice, I am still associated with the UNH Department of Kinesiology working with the athletic trainers and help as a physician with the UNH hockey team. I ran a solo medical practice acting as my own business manager and accountant for 35 years. Having an undergraduate degree in economics and having been treasurer of a number of organizations starting in college, I feel comfortable working with budgets.
