Sudie Blanchard

Occupation:  Retired

Education:  Vassar College AB; University of Michigan MLIS (Masters of Library and information Science)

How long have you lived in Durham?  4 ½ years

Have you previously served on any government/community, civil boards, commissions, or organizations? If so, please provide a brief background of your prior experience.  I’ve served as a librarian in 4 public libraries in a variety of roles: The Wellesley Free Library (Wellesley, MA), The Westwood Public Library (Westwood, MA), The Greenwich Library (Greenwich, CT) and, most recently, The York Public Library in York, ME, where for 8 years, I was the Assistant Director.

Please provide a brief paragraph explaining your interest in being elected/re-elected to the position for which you are running.  I moved to Durham in 2020, and as soon as I could, acquired a library card. I know and love all libraries– but especially public libraries.  They serve all ages and create and sustain a feeling of community for all citizens. I believe the experiences I’ve had throughout my career have prepared me well to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Durham Public Library.
