Oyster River Cycle & Sport
Oyster River Cycle & Sport
One meeting, one text, and a business was born. In truth, there were years of desire and intention behind the opening of Oyster River Cycle & Sport, but the launch came within weeks of Brian Keegan’s decision to make it happen.
Brian, who lives in Durham with his wife Shannon and two sons, Quinn and Rory, has cycled competitively and worked in the industry for 20 years. His passion for cycling grew out of a need to find an outlet for his energy after an injury sidelined him from participating on the UNH track team. Like many racing enthusiasts, Brian found himself working in the industry, most recently at Papa Wheelies in Portsmouth. His desire to own his own shop came to fruition after a community meeting on April 1st with UNH and the town to discuss how to support and encourage cycling in the community. It was time. Just weeks later the doors at 14 Jenkins Court were open and welcoming the cycling community.
Brian offers a variety of bicycles for all ages and abilities. A limited amount of cycling accessories are available for purchase. If you don’t see what you need just ask and he will get it for you! Much of Brian’s time will be spent servicing bikes, just as he was doing when I arrived at his downtown shop. In tune with a community boasting a major educational institution, he also plans on offering workshops to help bicycle owners increase their knowledge and ability to care for their bikes.
When asked what type of cyclist Brian catered to, his response was simply, “I am a community bike shop. I want anyone who rides or who wants to ride to feel welcome here.” To that end, son’s, Quinn and Rory, have set up an inviting kid’s corner complete with their own artwork to welcome the younger set to the shop.
Oyster River Cycle & Sport is open Tuesday-Friday from 9-5:30, Saturday from 9-5 and Monday afternoons during the Farmer’s Market. Learn more by visiting their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/OysterRiverCycleandSport/ or website https://oysterrivercycle.com/
