The Meadows
The Meadows
30 Newmarket Road. 5.3 acres
Directions: From Durham Town Hall, turn right onto Newmarket Road. The Meadows is .3 miles south on the right side of the road.
About the Property
The Meadows property is a 5.3-acre parcel located at 30 Newmarket Road south of the Oyster River bridge that was generously donated to the town in 2018 by resident Dennis Meadows. The property is part of a beautiful meadow that sweeps down toward the Oyster River.
The donation helped preserve the viewscape of an important Durham gateway and allow the creation of a walkable community garden and, in the future, community trails. Its position directly across the Oyster River from the Milne Nature Sanctuary creates the potential for the construction of a bridge connecting trails on both sides of the river, thereby providing pedestrian access to the center of town.
Uses
The only current use of the property is as a home to the Mill Pond Community Gardens. Parking at the site is for the use of Gardeners and town staff only.
Construction of trails is planned for after the Mill Pond Dam is removed.
