With rain threatening the music once again at Wagon Hill, the Durham Public Library has generously volunteered to host this Thursday’s Summer Concert Series Band – The Westminster Hillbillies from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. If you like Rhythm & Blues and Rock, come on out for the concert in the Oyster River Room.

Dancing encouraged! Light refreshments will be available (sorry, no alcohol at this show) to keep you moving. The new library is located at 49 Madbury Road. Here’s some information about the band:

The Westminster Hillbillies are John Coley (bass), Eric Dearing (guitar), Kelly Dearing (vocals), Dave Howland (woodwinds), and Scott Winters (drums). The band grew out of a group of friends who gathered for dinner and jamming on Sunday evenings in Arlington, MA. Their name honors these gatherings on Westminster Avenue in the hills below Mt. Gilboa, but don’t expect Westminster harpsichord or hillbilly banjo. The band covers an eclectic mix of rock and blues classics and a handful of originals, offering jam-oriented interpretations with soulful vocals.

Eric, Kelly, and Scott have collaborated musically for over 20 years; with the addition of close friends John and Dave, the Hillbillies’ sound is at once playful and heartfelt.
