Welcome from the Chief of Police
Welcome to the Durham Police Department's section of the Town of Durham web site. The Durham Police Department is a full-service, CALEA accredited law enforcement organization comprised of 21 full-time police officers; 1 part-time police officer; 3 full-time civilian and 2 part-time civilian employees who are highly competent, dedicated and committed to their community. We strive to create an environment that fosters the development of partnerships within our community.
Durham is located in the beautiful seacoast region of New Hampshire and is home to the University of New Hampshire and nearly 15,000 students. From a policing aspect, the presence of a dynamic and changing student body presents both challenges and opportunities for the creation of new and innovative partnerships. We strive to create an atmosphere that is based upon the expectations of quality police services. That means personal relationships and an inherent trust in the organization to do the right things at the right time.
As you move through our web site, we hope you learn of opportunities that foster and support our commitment to a guardian philosophy of community policing that continuously encourages citizen involvement. Learn about career opportunities and also a police department with compassion for both victims of crime and its employees. We are happy to have you visit.
Included in our section, you will find contact information for the employees of the Durham Police Department. We encourage you to contact us should you have any questions or suggestions.
Sincerely,
Rene Kelley
Chief of Police
