Apparatus
Engine 1 is a 2015 model year Marion Body works Attack Engine on a Spartan Chassis powered by a diesel engine and an automatic transmission. It is set up with a 750-gallon water tank and a 1500-gallon per minute pump which has the ability to disperse class "A" or "B" foam depending upon the desired application. It also seats six persons and carries 1000 feet of supply hose and various hand lines.

Tank 4 is a 2010 Marion tank truck that functions as a rural area water supply apparatus. This truck is equipped with an automatic transmission and diesel engine. 2500 gallons of water is carried on this truck with a 1500 gallon per minute pump. This truck also has class "A" or "B" foam capabilities depending on the material or liquid that is burning. This vehicle has a 4-person cab and carries 2000 feet of 4 inch supply hose well as various hand lines. This apparatus is our water supply unit outside the hydrant district.
Rescue 1 is a 2001 International 4400 series truck with a walk in rescue body by Marion Body Works, INC. This vehicle responds to motor vehicle accidents, ice rescues, confined space rescues and other technical emergencies. A diesel engine and an automatic transmission power it. This vehicle is equipped with a 6 thousand watt telescoping light tower, a 25 thousand-watt generator and the Jaws of Life Hurst extrication tool.
Truck 3 is a 2016 Ferrara 100-foot aerial with a diesel engine and automatic transmission. The aerial can be extended to full length at any angle down to minus 2 degrees. The 100 foot ladder with a basket allows us to reach the floor height of any building in town or on campus. It is equipped with a six person enclosed cab and a 2000 gallon per minute pump with a 300 gallon tank. This pump allows the operator to flow 2000 GPM of the basket. This unit is also equipped with anchor point for rescue capabilities and 1250 for load.
The Technical Rescue Support Unit is a 26-foot fully enclosed cargo trailer purchased in 2016 that carries the departments’ equipment for technical rescue operations. While the Rescue truck handles the majority of all of these calls, there are times when an incident requires equipment too bulky and too big to be carried to everyday calls. This trailer can be pulled by either the Medic truck or by the Utility vehicle as an almost stand-alone rescue unit when an extended emergency arises.
Medic 1 was purchased in 2010 to run on all medical aid calls, it has supplies to handle up to and including advanced life support capabilities. This truck has a gasoline engine, automatic transmission and four wheel drive. This vehicle was designed specifically to deliver emergency medical aid in any type of terrain or weather condition. It heavy duty chassis allows us to tow all department trailers when needed.
Forestry 1, a 2007 Ford F-350 4X4. This truck is outfitted with a 250 Gallon skid tank, forestry tools and a 9000 lbs. receiver mounted winch. The primary mission of this truck is brush fires. This vehicle allows us to respond to areas that larger apparatus cannot get to.
Utility 1, a 2013 Chevy Pickup 2500. This vehicle is a multi-use vehicle that ranges from prevention to emergency response like towing trailers or even hauling contaminated equipment back from scenes. This vehicle is the only one in the fleet that allows us to separate contaminated equipment from non-contaminated equipment.
UTV-1 is a 2013 Can Am All-terrain vehicle. This two place side by side vehicle was a donation to the Durham Fire Department by a Local resident. This vehicle allows crews to perform woods rescues, assist with brush fires and is a rescue vehicle for large events in town. The department has made this a vehicle easily adaptable to many functions.
Water crafts, 2014 Bombardier RXT-260. The department was two of these units with the primary function of water rescue capabilities on any body of water. These are trailered on a two place trailer and can be towed by any of the department’s vehicles with a hitch. The department has a rescue board that attaches to the rear of one of the units for rescuing multiple victims.
Car-1, a 2016 Chevy Tahoe assigned to the Chief of the Department. Vehicle is equipped with a gasoline engine, automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. This vehicle has a mobile command unit as well as a computer library for emergency incidents. Other equipment on this truck consists of water rescue, air pack and EMS equipment.
Car-2, a 2013 Chevy Suburban assigned to the Assistant Chief of the Department. Vehicle is equipped with a gasoline engine, automatic transmission and four wheel drive. This vehicle has a mobile command unit as pack, Light tower and EMS equipment and a computer library for emergency incidents.
Car-3, a 2009 Chevy Tahoe assigned to the Fire Marshal of the Department. Vehicle is equipped with a gasoline engine, automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.
Car-4, a 2017 Ford Explorer is used by the Fire Prevention Bureau. It has a gasoline engine, automatic transmission and is equipped to handle anything from Public Education to Arson Investigations.
